Some have asked me "Well why not use the German method of letting people join either the military or a federal community service program?" The answer to that is quite simple, so everyone's equal while in the service. Rich policy makers almost always keep their kids out of war while sending the poor kids off to fight. Think about it, almost every pro-war right wing mouth piece avoided combat duty for some reason or another. Bush avoided it by having daddy Bush pull some strings and had him placed in the National Guard, Cheney had "other responsibilities", Limbaugh had a boil on his ass, and so on and so forth. Making everyone serve in the military as a grunt for two years and rotating people in and out of combat takes care of that. That, however, also does not completely guarantee that everyone has to serve equally on it's own.

So what do you do? We set up laws which punish those who attempt to buy their way out of it. Those who attempt to bribe someone will have their assets siezed and thrown into the public fund. Those who accept a bribe lose their position of power, barred for life from any political or military position. As for the person in question trying to avoid duty, they serve an extra two years and twice the time spent on the front. We do this to send a clear message that we don't care if your daddy's rich or a politician, your ass is getting in the shit with everyone else. This way too the right wing will be a little bit more cautious about going to war, especially when their kid will be sent to fight it. You could use this method for other cases of pribes as well, like in the case of lobbyists.

I've also been told "Well there'll be people who'll refuse to become a soldier and there's nothing we can do about it because the drill seargents have their hands tied behind their back." So untie their hands. I say anything short of death and permanent disability is fair game, and get rid of that stupid rule about drill seargents not being able to swear at soldiers. Lets just face facts here people, some people need a swift kick in the ass to get their shit together. What better place than the military?
